** PLEASE SLOW DOWN The Board has received many reports of vehicles going too fast on lake roads. Fed-X and UPS have been contacted about their truck drivers going too fast on lake roads. We are also asking all our members to please slow down! Safety has to be a concern for everyone. ** Due to complaints from members, a chain has been installed across the Emergency Cut Off between West Lake Drive and Coultas Drive, it is not locked. In case of an emergency just unhook the chain.
**The Board is looking for members to step up and form a Booster Club. People interested in fundraising for the annual fireworks and/or additional enhancements to the lake should join the Booster Club. If you are interested please call the office.

Sunset Lake is located 3 1/2 miles west of Girard, IL. Our lake is a 173-acres of pristine waters to enjoy fishing, boating, swimming, skiing and tubing.
July 29, 1954 the Girard Community Lake Association, consisting of, George Kemp, Harry Wallace, Ray Krebaum, James Coultas, Verner Hunt, Orval Lomelino, Owen Foster, Charles Gibbel, M. G Miller, S. O. Smith Jr organized and began to construct a lake to establish recreational facilities and to promote the conservation of wild game and fish-life by the members. On August 29, 1955 the name was changed to Sunset Lake Association. The association maintains approximately 10 miles of private roads around the lake. All land is owned by the Association and leased to the members on a 99 year lease.
The Association maintains a community center, consisting of the Office and Hanauer Hall in addition to a garage. A Firehouse manned by Girard Volunteer Fire Department was constructed in 2010 by the Association. Hanauer Hall was dedicated to Robert Hanauer (pictured to the right), without whom, there wouldn't be a Community Center. Hanauer worked tirelessly to move the Association office from the town square in Girard to Association property. His love and dedication to the Sunset Lake Association was honored by the dedication of the community hall being named after him.
Sunset Lake is a private not for profit general corporation of residential properties with beautiful homes that fit various budgets.
Boaters beware!
Dam at maximum depth is only 2 feet deep!
